Loving Awareness Programs with its focus on deep self-understanding, are the corner stone of the Neohumanist Education ideal and requires the teacher to practice some form of intuitive sensitivity training on a regular basis. A teacher who follows a personal mental discipline will:
- Set learning goals often different from the traditional curriculum by encouraging the human development over knowledge and test passing skills
- Apply methods that encourage inner growth (creativity & self-discovery)
- Apply ways of assessment that are non-judgmental
- Be more perceptive and train an intuitive understanding of the needs of the students
- Care about ideas (not just the facts) and inspire (not just motivate)
- Accept personal defects as opportunities for growth
- Focus on the classroom by being able to leave personal problems/ administrative pressures at the door of the classroom (mind shift)

Meditation with Children
Though silent games can start earlier, simple meditation starts when the children are closer to the age of going to elementary school. They are disciplined, can learn to focus their minds on their inner space, develop a relationship of love and safety and derive the wisdom from the inner self. At our school in Taichung the bigger children practice daily to center themselves, through breathing, gentle guidance and simple silence and observation. The immediate results have been a greater sense of self-control, better relationships and more emotional stability. Long term the wisdom that is derived from looking within has untold benefits, as a growing number of studies suggests. These benefits can include better social lives, more stable families, higher incomes and better careers. |
