Storytelling and Self-expression

Picture
One condition for creating a more peaceful society is to support and nurture people's self-expression. Conformity to social or cultural norms that don't foster the opportunity for personal creativity and the expression of the heart, leads to a society where violence is inevitable. In 'What about me?' the psychiatrist Paul Verhaege outlines one of the main reasons for the mental diseases so prevalent in society today the economic and social circumstances. He writes: 'Today’s pay-for-performance mentality is turning institutions such as schools, universities, and hospitals into businesses, while individuals are being made to think of themselves as one-person enterprises. Love is increasingly hard to find, and we struggle to lead meaningful lives.'

Neohumanist Education takes a strong stand against pseudo-culture and encourages self-expression through story telling, drama, the arts, music and dance. Local stories are the mainstay of this curriculum.

The Storytelling School
After many years of training teachers and parents in creative storytelling, we have recently started a more structured program that encourages schools to adapt storytelling in all subjects of the curriculum. This program is called "The Storytelling School" in which our team of teachers offers storytelling training for every semester, according to an age adjusted syllabus.
